  • Well another year is almost over with. Not much has happened to update the site. Although in a spurt of enthusiasm I was looking at Nelson Reidel's website checking out how he has progressed with his Heisler project. It got me enthused again to get going on my shay. When I went to check out Ken Schoreder's site I discovered that the site address no longer worked. A quick look in Live Steam showed he had changed his sites name. This has been updated in the Shay build section of the Railroad Shop.

  • During the last few weeks of summer I was able to get my Nitro Hammer speed boat running. It was great fun until the engine died and I had to go out to get it. Although I had a jet ski available, it was a pain. So I came up with an idea of building a rescue boat. It is going to be pontoon style with twin electric motors. I'm going to use styrofoam for the pontoons. Of course this lead to another project of making a hot wire foam cutter. So I've added a section in the Machine Shop on how I built one. That's it for now. When I start building the rescue boat I'll post it in the boat section. Looks like the airboat takes a back seat again.

  • Just opened the Model Airboat Shop. The project in it, My First Airboat, was started over a year ago but was put on hold until this past week. I hope to be working on it this fall/winter season along with many other projects. I would like to get it done for the spring/summer season next year. Only time will tell.

  • It's been almost a year since I've done an update on the site. Much has taken place since then.

I still haven't thought about a total remake of the site. There doesn't seem to be the time or discipline to do it. Many new projects have happened. Plus I've a became a moderator on a forum called Madmodder. Interesting place. Basically it revolves around modifying tooling, machine tools, cars, motorcycles and such. Anything is fare game. If your interested here's the link to Mad Modder.

I acquired a Bridgeport mill last year and installed it in the basement. You can read about that adventure here Moving a Bridgeport. It's at the Madmodder forum. No sense in duplicating info. You'll enter as a guest, you don't need to sign up as a member to view the threads.

Well that's it for now. Hopefully I get back at updating this site after this years Labor Day.

  • Since it really doesn't fit the scheme of the web site under model building. "The Station" page has been moved to the "Misc. Shop" section. Progress on the house is slow but continues. Brick laying has just about come to an end this year. Next it will be back to working on the inside. There are many projects to get done. So the hobby has to take a back seat.........maybe.

Making parts and machining for the guys that play with cars has increased somewhat. Word has gotten around that I do machine work. It helps with buying new tooling.

Updated the "Building a table top CNC machine" page under "The Model Machine Shop". I found a couple of dead links that I referred to. See the CNC page for further details.

Also the "Minilathe Page" has some added wording in "The Model Machine Shop" section..

Added my first video. It's of the first Wobbler engine I built. It can be found in The Model Engine Shop" under "Wobbler".

September 19, 2008

  • Updated the Wobbler page with more pictures. The engine has been completed

February 2, 2008

  • Updated the Wobbler page with more pictures as the build of this engine progresses.

  • The Model Engine Shop section is now open. It was originally going to be called the Steam Engine Shop, but since I'm going to include internal combustion engines also, I decided to call it the Model Engine Shop. I'll be posting items related to steam engine building and miniature internal combustion engines or MICE as they are called by the fraternity of internal combustion engine builders. There may even be a Hit-n-Miss engine included.

  • The drill press page has been updated with three new pics. Go to Misc. Shop and follow the link for the drill press page.

  • The stair case is installed and the railing that will go around the large hole in the floor is being worked on. In the mean time I giving some attention to a very large, by home shop machinist standards anyway, drill press. This past summer I bought a Buffalo Forge #21 drill press. Hauled it home and stood it up in the garage to be used in the future workshop yet to be built. Well as luck would have it a job needing a large drill press has come my way and I need it now. So I've put up a page on getting this old work horse back to running shape. Go to the Misc. Shop and click on the Buffalo Forge drill press link to watch the progress of bringing it back to life.

  • Finally have the utility trailer done and on the road. Go to my Misc. Shop section to get an overview of the trailer. I didn't go into much detailed explanation on building it. Next large project will be a faster way to cut the pallets up. Something that is less physical intensive. I plan on making a double saw using an old mobile home trailer as the bed. Something on the order of what a saw mill would use. The project is already underway.

The airboat is also taking shape. I still have to get it organized for the web site. Also now I can turn my attention back to working inside the house to start finishing those small projects that need getting done, like for instance, the circular staircase to the basement is hear and needs to be installed.

August 27, 2007

  • Hard to believe the summer is almost over with. Well, my right hand is doing OK for now. Hopefully it'll be better after a bit more surgery. The utility trailer is done and I'm working on getting it registered. Also a new bug has bitten me. I've gotten very interested in model airboats. Plan on doing a page on one when I get around to doing it. Just what I need, another interest, as if I don't have enough already. (very big grin). So stay tuned as I'm going to update the site as cooler weather starts.

December 25, 2006

  • Here it is Christmas 2006. Time for an update before the new year. Progress of all projects has been very slow. The trailer I was working on has not got done. It is setting in the yard with a friends Seadoe on top for winter storage. I had an unfortunate accident on October 26th. While cutting up a pallet my powered hand saw decide it would take a bite out of my hand. It almost severed my index finger and did some nasty cuts on my palm. I can't bend my thumb and my index finger since the saw cut through the bone between the middle and end knuckle of the index finger. Of course it had to be my right hand and I'm right handed. I've learned to do a lot of things left handed and in the last two months everything is pretty well healed up. Perhaps next year this time I'll be able to bend the index finger and thumb to some degree. Full 100% recovery is not expected. In the mean time I was able to complete the laundry room and work on some On30 projects. I discovered that tools can really help you when partially disabled. So it's on with the small projects that can be done with minimum effort of the right hand in the mean time.

Sept. 21, 2006

  • I've been working on and off on the trailer and am in the wiring stage. Hopefully I'll be able to get it finished before the snow fly's. I've taken several pictures and will post them as soon as I get some pics of the wiring.

July 12, 2006

  • It's been some time since I did anything to the site or did any thing with the projects I've started. With this past winters heating bills that skyrocket through the roof I got to picking up wood pallets at the place my wife works. Going in twice a week started to be a drag so I figured I'd get myself a large utility trailer. Well, I found plans ordered them and ordered the steel and proceeded to put it together. I've taken pictures and plan on putting them on the site when it's done. This will be one project that will be completed or else. So stay tuned.

September 7, 2005

  • I've had a few complaints about the colors I was using for the main page, so I've decided to try a bright background with dark lettering. Hopefully this will help the tired old eyes.
  • I've finally got some work done on my newest project, a VW powered snow blower on rubber tracks. Check it out in the Misc. section. There are no pictures on the page. All pictures are viewed by clicking on the appropriate link.

August 4, 2005

It's been almost a year since I've done any updating to this site. I figure it's about time I update on some of the projects that I've talked about on this site.

  • Well it's in to August now, 8/4/05, and it's a hot one today. The west side of the house is finally all brick faced, only a few minor details that need to be done. I'm around the corner and am working on the south face now. We've acquired a pontoon boat so even the old boat projects have come to a stop. Seems like I'm acquiring more projects and not getting any of them done. Since being a model railroader I've gotten bit by the On30 bug and have started a modular layout. Talk about another project. Sheeeesh!
  • First is the addition of the "What's new" page.
  • The "Station" or house has seen very little progress in the 2004/2005 winter season. Seems like ambition was hard to find this past winter. Although some small items have been finished. As the warmer season approaches it'll back to brick laying. I'll post a pic of the completed west side of the house.
  • I've updated the compressor page in the Model Machine Shop section.
  • The "Model Shop" has seen very little improvement. It has mainly become cluttered with tools and such. I still need to make the cabinets so I can get rid of the clutter.
  • The "CNC Page" has come to a complete halt. That idea came up when I needed to make a complicated part that would have been hard to make by manual machines. I still plan on doing something in this area. Only it won't be in the near future.
  • The Railroad Shop has come to a complete stand still also. I have a couple of projects before this part of the hobby can continue. So no further updates will occur here until my other projects are done.
  • One new project that came out of the last two cold winters is a VW powered snow blower, which I hope to have running before the next cold spell comes. I'll be adding a page as I progress on this project. This happens to be one of the new projects that has put a stop to all other hobby related projects on this web site.
  • And the last project that has helped grind the hobby to a stand still is the rebuilding of a boat trailer, motor and boat. How and why I acquired a boat is another story which we'll leave to your imagination. Suffice it to say we have a place for summer vacation.

That's it for now. I'll top post items as they are added to the site. Progress will be slow.
